My Review of the 2013 “Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party”

With my race T-Shirt on, which was PERFECT for a Christmas party, I showed up with my a medal around my neck and a smile on my face.  Sure, it was November 11th, but this was no ordinary Monday evening.  The Christmas party is something special in Walt Disney World, and I was super excited to experience it this Holiday season.  Enjoy!mvmcp4

I was there around 6 pm, and if you didn’t know, you can enter the Magic Kingdom as early as 4 p.m. on any party night. Now technically the party doesn’t start until 7:00 but going in early gives you 3 hours to ride the rides, eat dinner, and get your game plan ready for the evening.  I also love this time because the day crowds are leaving, and most of the party crowd doesn’t start to arrive until 6:00ish which means little to no lines for the attractions, along with the ease of walking up to order food without waiting.mvmcp2

After a hug with Ami and her adorable daughters, Dee met me in the front to start our party night.  We walked right down the middle of Main Street USA- Christmas carols playing and all.  After a Casey’s hot dog, which we walked right up to buy,  we were geared to go. Big Thunder  Mountain had no wait, so we walked on and got the very last car- INSANE how much fun that ride is!  mvmcp12

The Party was now in full swing, so it was time t find the hot chocolate and cookies. If you have done any of the Parties before, they are marked with a large balloon so they are easy to find.  We found a station at Sunshine Tree Terrace where we grabbed the sugar cookies and hot chocolate.  Across from this area is Aladdin and Jasmine’s meet up during the day, but during the party they bring out Abu and Aladdin is wearing his full white prince suit from the song “Prince Ali” in the movie.  You don’t see that much, so it was pretty cool to see him in it!mvmcp7 mvmcp5

After sugar in our system, it was time to shake our booty over at the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon.  The dance party has Jessie, Woody, and Bullseye.  I have never had a bad experience with this dance area- they have it at both the Halloween and Christmas parties.  Here’s the thing you have to remember in here- first, there are a lot of people dancing in here sometimes, so watch for the very little ones dancing.  Two, the Characters don’t sign during this Party, nor do they really pose.  They will dance near you, so if you mosey up next to one, you might be able to get a shot. This goes for all of the dance parties I have witnessed- its  a dance party, not a meet and greet.   Life is complete when you see Jessie and Woody dancing to Beyonce songs!mvmcp22

The first show we hit was the “Celebrate the Season” show held on the Castle stage.  We went to the first one at 7:45 p.m. and we had no problem walking up at 7:35 p.m. and finding a spot in the center and close up. Keep in mind that the first parade is at 8:15 p.m., so most of the curb space has been rented out in this area- just find a spot near the hub or on the road.   The show is super adorable, very festive, and is a great treat for the entire family to enjoy!  (Who doesn’t love reindeer and Frosty?)mvmcp6

Before we forgot, we headed to the Liberty Square Sorcerer’s card stand (located behind the Christmas Store) and picked up our Christmas party cards. Yes, we each got two.  FYI you need to have you Park ticket ONLY to receive the cards during the Party.mvmcp24

With that checked off the list, we headed to “Club Tinsel” which is held at Cosmic Rays in Tomorrowland.  A dance party, you can shake it with the best of Santa Goofy and Pluto doing the same.  This party was definitely busier than Woody’s one, so keep it in mind if you want to burn off some extra energy without being shoulder to shoulder with others.

I grabbed my Mickey Santa Popcorn container ($13) at the stand back by Space Mountain, than enjoyed the “A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas” show at the Rockettower Plaza Stage.  Join Buzz, Stitch, and Mike Wazowski as the dance on stage with the other singers/dancers.   We were able to watch half of the show, grab a pic with Phineas and Ferb (located by Buzz Lightyear SpaceRanger Spin) and get a spot for “Celebrate the Magic” and “Holiday Wishes” with plenty of time to spare. I would say 15-20 minutes is enough time to find a spot, just keep in mind you don’t want to be too close to the Castle or the fireworks can’t be seen after Celebrate the Magic.  (Especially since there are perimeter ones that are around the entire hub area in front of the Castle).mvmcp25

Celebrate the Magic had a Holiday Tag on the end of it, which was pretty sweet with a nod to their new movie “Frozen.”  And of course, how can you go wrong with “Holiday Wishes?”  Good golly I love those fireworks!  mvmcp8

After the magic that is Disney euphoria, we headed to NEW Fantasyland to see what was going on back there. The Christmas lights were lit up in Belle’s Village, and we had no wait to ride “Journey of the Little Mermaid” ride.  Dee was getting tired, so we decided to call it a night until I saw the Seven Dwarves again and I decided to wait in line to see them. We hugged our goodbyes out, and I only waited 20 minutes to see the crew.  I was super excited to cross this one off my list, and we all know how long this line usually can be.  I got my second wind after meeting them, and decided to see what else I could do before the night was over.

Princess Fairytale Hall was only a 10 minute wait for Cinderella and Aurora, and knowing the Princes are out at the Parties, I thought “Why not?”  They were a BLAST to talk too, and the Princes jabbed playfully at each other on their hair and how perfect they each were.  I loved it!

I had seen the Country Bears earlier in the night at their own meet and greet in Frontierland, so I thought I would see if they were still there. SO HAPPY they were only there, they had a tiny line. I was in and out in 10 minutes, and what a great find!

After dancing with Jessie and Woody again for awhile to Beyonce songs, I decided to see what the Fairies were up too. NO LINE at 11:30 p.m., walked right in and met Tinkerbell and her sister, Periwinkle, all decked out in their holiday clothes.

I ended the night with a ride on Pirates and walked out among falling snow on Main Street USA- pure magic.  I just stood at the end of the street and smiled for the longest time, no words to describe the beauty.mvmcp14 mvmcp11 mvmcp10 mvmcp9 mvmcp23

So is Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party worth it? Well, it depends on what you consider “worth it.”  During Christmas week, the general public (no extra ticket required) can see the same parade, fireworks, and Castle show during that time.  So for locals and those vacationing that week,  those are some pretty expensive cookies and hot chocolate.  But for those before then, it’s an opportunity to see all of the above, the different Characters, the regular Characters dressed up, and enjoy the dance parties at Rays and the Saloon.  The best advantage on the ticket is to use it as the time you get to see Magic Kingdom- go in for 3 hours and do all of the rides you can and then attend the party, throwing in shows and rides when between the rest.  mvmcp13

Schedule:

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade: 8:15 and 10:30 p.m.

Celebrate the Magic Show on the Castle: 9:15 p.m.

Holiday Wishes- Celebrate the Spirit of the Season: 9:30 p.m.

A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas Show: 7:45, 8:45, 9:55, 10:50 and 11:45 p.m.

Celebrate the Season Show on the Castle Stage: 7:45, 10:05 and 11:20 p.m.

I enjoyed it and I hope you do too- Merry Christmas!

Enjoy the Party and Merry Christmas!!
