What is your name and where do you live?
Alicia Roth, I live in the Four Corners area of Winter Garden in Florida. I’m originally from Columbus, Neb.
Where did your love of Walt Disney World come from?
I grew up loving anything and everything Disney, especially the movies, and had always wanted to visit Walt Disney World. I didn’t get my wish until I was 13 in 2000, and I fell in love with the parks and felt like it was my second home, even though I’d never been there before that trip.
What is your favorite WDW Park Attraction and why?
This is a hard choice, I love Space Mountain, Rock n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Test Track and Expedition Everest because I’ve always been a rollercoaster/adrenaline junkie. I love Tower of Terror and Haunted Mansion because I like spooky things, especially things that are full of layers of hidden surprises (there are tons of things hidden in the attic of the Haunted Mansion in terms of story that most people never notice). But Pirates of the Caribbean will always have the most special place in my heart, as that was the first attraction I ever worked, and I am a trainer there.
Would you like to move to FL? When and why?
I moved to Florida in August of 2009 after I finished college to participate in the Disney College Program. I had always wanted to move to Florida since I knew about the College Program and knew that I wanted to live at Walt Disney World. It was my dream since the age of 13, and just 9 years later, I accomplished it. I was also sick and tired of the Nebraska snow and cold winters and knew that I both wanted and needed to be somewhere warm.
Who is your favorite Disney Character?
I could no sooner choose a favorite star in the heavens! But I do love Cinderella, Marie (Aristocats), Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Ariel, and of course Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
What is your favorite food on WDW Property?
All of the ice creams are my weakness, especially the Dole Whip in Adventureland. I also love the chocolate mousse from the French Bakery because it reminds me of my mom, as that’s her favorite place in Epcot for a dessert. The cheese soup from Le Cellier is also something I crave from time to time.
If you could work for Walt Disney World, what would be your dream job?
I already work at Walt Disney World. I started out in Merchandise in the Backlands of Disney’s Hollywood Studios (which is basically the entire left side of the park’s shops after you get off of Hollywood Boulevard). I now work in Adventureland/Liberty Square Attractions. I work the rides: Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion and the Liberty Belle Riverboat, I train other people how to work at Pirates, and I coordinate every once and awhile at the Haunted Mansion (I keep things moving so my cast members get their breaks on time!)
Do you collect anything Disney, and if so, what?
I collect everything I can possibly find that I can afford and is Disney. Currently it’s Disney plush (especially Marie and holiday Mickey and Minnies), Disney shirts, Vinylmation, pins (especially cast exclusive ones!), dolls, ornaments, bags and purses. My collection is quite large!
Do you stay on WDW Property, and if so, where?
When I visit with my parents, the first two times we came to Disney we stayed at Port Orleans, the next two times we stayed at the All Star Resorts. Now when my parents come to visit me they usually stay at the All Star Resorts. But now that I live here, I no longer stay at the resorts unless I am visiting my parents.
What is your favorite WDW Memory?
My mom would always extensively research our trips to Disney beforehand with the Birnbaum’s Walt Disney World guides, which give descriptions of all the rides, I would read them too after she was done with them. When we went for the first time when I was 13, I was going through a phase where I was absolutely terrified of ghosts, and was convinced that all of the ones in the rides (Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror) were real, and were going to try to get me. I refused to go anywhere near the Haunted Mansion. I was going to go on the Tower of Terror, but reluctantly because I knew about the ghosts in the hallway. I made it as far as the library when my dad thought it would be a good idea to make me jump when the lights turned out. I chickened out, and since I refused to go, so did my little brother. So we took the chicken elevator down to the exit and waited for our parents there. The funny part is, now the Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror are two of my favorite rides, especially because I faced my fears (and now I think ghosts are pretty cool, haha).
My other favorite memory would be the first time I got to walk through Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion when I was being trained to work there. I loved seeing the magic behind the scenes.
If you won a million dollars that could only be used for WDW, what would you do with it?
I would probably spend it all on Disney merchandise, because I’m crazy and can never have enough of it! I would love to say that I would spend some of it on fixing Pirates of the Caribbean for good so it doesn’t keep breaking all the time… but that would take the fun out of my days, so I wouldn’t do that… (life’s no fun when you don’t get a few moments of problem solving every once in awhile, which is what happens when the ride breaks temporarily).
Are you involved in any Disney Communities, Groups, or Websites? Which ones?
No, not really. I try to stay away from a lot of those. But I do follow the Relocated Tourist faithfully! J
Anything else you would like us to know about you?
I’ve wanted to be a cast member since I knew what it was, and even though no one else I knew understood why this was what I wanted. It’s been 2 and a half years, and I still love it just as much as I knew I always would. I have had more opportunities and met more people than I ever would have if I had stayed home in Nebraska. I was always shy and afraid to talk to people before I came to Disney, and now I have definitely come out of my shell, and I’m so glad that I did. Disney is my home, and it’s exactly where I belong. I met my boyfriend here while our college programs, and more friends than I could possibly count, all because of our mutual love of Walt Disney World.
