What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger

As I was driving home from the grocery store this morning, I was listening to a song about hard times.  It made me think about the many hard times Carl and I have experienced, and how blessed we have been all at the same time.  We hear a lot of people say “I could never do that” or “It would never happen for me.”  I am here to tell YOU, yes YOU, that incredible things can happen if you just BELIEVE.

Believe in what? Believe that God directs your paths, believe that you can do anything you set your mind too, and believe that nothing can stop you.  The power of believing is incredible, and it has gotten me through the toughest storms in my life.  It is incredibly easy to believe when life is going great, but how much do you believe when it doesn’t?  I know that I have been humbled many times, been brought to my knees,  because it is so much harder to understand the bad vs the good.

When we found out Jessie had Cancer, I thought that my life as I knew it would be over. Would she be ok? Would she ever be the same? Would we?  Would we be able to get through the tough medical roads ahead?  After the initial shock of it all, I took a deep breath and I prayed.  I prayed that God’s will be done and to give Carl and I the strength to get through it all.  We have been there folks, and I wanted you all to know that because we aren’t sharing this part of our lives to glorify it.  We are sharing it because we wanted to make friends, we wanted to help others relocate as well, and we wanted to get information and help from those who had done it before us.  I don’t ever want this blog to come off as a “Be jealous, look at us.”

For those of you who may be unemployed right now, again, follow me on this.  Carl has been unemployed a couple of times during our marriage.  It was hard, it was tough, and it happened once while Jessie was diagnosed.  Imagine, your daughter now has Cancer, and your place of employment lets you go.  I can’t even tell you how hard that year was.  We had to rely on unemployment, Medicare, family, and friends to help us through it all.  I have been there where you are in a store and you don’t know if you can afford diapers or food. I have been there where you have only $5 left and the next time you will get money is a week.  So please, understand, what doesn’t kill you WILL make you stronger.

We have been through those storms, and we have weathered them.  It is hard, it is tough, but being here, in this moment, I can tell you, YOU WILL BE OKAY!!  It may not feel like it, and I know that when you have to change your life because of the unexpected, it throws it into chaos.  All I can tell you is THAT is the time to reinvent yourself and your dreams- DO NOT LET GO OF THEM.   If we had given up, given in, we may not be moving to FL in less than 3 weeks.   If we had moped and let Satan win, we would never be as blessed as we are now.

So what was the point of this post? I just felt the need to let you ALL know that we have been there, we know what pain is all about. We have been in the unemployment lines, and in the hospital rooms.  We have been there counting out change in the grocery line, and praying our car would make it to the next stop before the gas ran out.  I want you to BELIEVE that good things CAN happen, and to keep the faith my friends.  We love each and every one of you and thank you for letting us share this journey with you.
