Our EPIC Garage Sale

After one year of gathering items, 5 weeks of preparing the sale, 2 weeks of stressing about the weather, and a pan of disastrous Rice Krispie Treats… the sale FINALLY happened this past week.  No more printing out signs, being obsessed with the Weather Channel, and having to step into my garage every day to mark something.  So… was it worth it? Read ahead to find out!

I can say, without a doubt, that it was VERY worth it! All of the planning, and prepping came to a final head Thursday morning as the alarm went off at 4:30 a.m.  The living room was overflowing with the kids beds, our bed, the living room set, and all of the furniture out of the basement.  The kitchen had racks of clothing, the kitchen set, and tables to be used for the sale.  We had a plan- a plan I had notes and notes on.  It was decided that we would make show rooms in the driveway so that people could see how we arranged and used our own furniture.  The show rooms were only one component of this major sale, as we had a huge clothing area, a misc area, and then the entire garage was filled items.

After trying to wake up, all four of us were up and out the door at 5 a.m. sharp.  We moved out everything from the house, piece by piece, sore muscle after sore muscle.  Arranging quickly as we did, it seemed the tasks were endless and daunting.  Having 10 tables of clothing, plus 5 hanging racks, was time consuming to fold and arrange.  The kids and my Mom did the clothing area, while I raced the clock trying to pull out everything out of the garage, I could feel my stress level rising.  You know how you work on something for a REALLY long time and you have this vision that NO ONE else could get? Yeah, well this sale was that to me and while it began to MIST outside, I could feel my soul deflating slowly.  I had only so much time, so even though I felt disappointed at the morning weather, I didn’t have time to dwell on it.

After the miracle of miracles, we were ready to start at 7:30 a.m..  The Ipod was playing Disney World music and I had hung up Walt Disney quotes on the walls.  The pay table had the money, soda, and signs ready.  Jessie’s snack table was called “Santa’s Summer Job” which had “Nice treats” and “Naughty treats.”  She sold all of the naughty treats, but only a couple nice ones were purchased. I guess no one walks up to a sale and says “oooohhh an apple!!” lol

As the sale was coming to a close, Jessie’s school bus driver pulled up IN the school bus. He got out and said “I want both of the beds!” in which I almost screamed with joy because NOONE wanted to have to move those heavy things BACK into the house.  It was a great moment, but funnier since now Kyra says “My bus driver bought my bed.” LOL

I have always only had one day sales in the past, so this “2 Day” thing was new to me. I have to PUT IT ALL BACK IN THE HOUSE AND GARAGE? I don’t think so!  No matter how much I said that, I still had to do it, taking another hour before I could sit. I collapsed into bed at the ripe hour of 8:30 p.m. Carl threw out his shoulder, so he was in a lot of pain last night. Between my tiredness and his pain, it was a rough night. I don’t know if we sleep horrible lately because the mattresses are on the floor, or because we know that our dream is SOOOOOO close.  I woke up at 4:30 this morning, and could barely keep my excitement from day 2 for the yard sale.  I was out the door minutes later, and had the most amazing 30 minutes to myself- just the sun, me, and the quiet.

Yesterday’s sale went well, but it was slow at times.  The sun was out, and I thought I had slathered enough sunscreen on- think again!  Right arm, tan and golden brown- any WI farmer would be proud of my famer tan- half WHITE arm and the other half, a nice golden tan.  But the left? Well that’s where I apparently didn’t think to put enough on, and it is dark red.  Oh the bliss of sleeping tonight will be- red arm, exhaustion, but hey- cash in the bank makes it all worth it!  Before we get to the pics, I want to make a shout out to Shanna- she is a blog reader, box person, and friend of Mr. Lou Mongello.  Do you know how much it meant to me that a READER came to our yard sale? She lived in the same city I did this whole time and I didn’t even know it!  THANK YOU SHANNA- you made my day!! But you didn’t come here to read my ramblings but to see the pictures… so here they are, enjoy!!
