You Must Be True To Your Heart

Mulan- one of my all time favorite Disney films.  From the animation to the script, it makes me smile, laugh and cry. So it was no surprise to me that I would love the soundtrack even more. During the credits, they play the song “True to Your Heart” which is sung by none other than “98 Degrees.”  The words in that song always pulled on my heart strings because it rings true to all of our life situations.  Today’s blog is all about listening to your heart, so relax, and enjoy!

I was in Church many Sundays ago, in WI, and our Pastor said that too many people listen to their heart, and not enough to their head.  I disagreed- I think too many people overthink everything and if they just listened to their heart, that maybe that is God’s way of speaking to them through that means.  I am not saying to listen to your heart to commit a crime or such, I am talking about those life choices and moments that you simply IGNORE your heart because you think it’s not even a possibility.  I stand before you all today, and say, LISTEN and BE TRUE to your heart.

If it is laid upon your heart to help a friend, to start a new career, or like my family, to move where your happiness lies- then listen to it and go for it.  It won’t be easy, in fact, it will probably be the toughest thing you have ever done in your life- but why not go for it?  To many times we tell ourselves that we will “do it later.” I was one of those people, but then I got to thinking- “When is later?”  There is never a good time to move, or accomplish anything you know will take time and determination. There will always be another problem, another bill, another road block, another someone who needs you for something else- yes, be there for what you need to be, but don’t wait. I am living proof that you can enjoy what you have craved for, for YEARS, and still come out smiling.

Our date nights used to be to the local Red Lobster or Marcus Theater. Now we walk down Main Street in the Magic Kingdom, grab a Dole Whip, and people watch while we walk hand in hand.  We used to meet up with our favorite couples at Restaurants in WI to chat for hours (Miss you Kay and Will), and now we meet up with Korie and Bill and have a soda in an empty MK Restaurant while the Main Street Electrical parade rolls by.   We sit on the TTA and do nothing but smile and chat about how this is really our lives now and how it still feels like a dream.

Speaking of date night, on a side note here, we treated ourselves to a delightful drink at the Poly the other night.  We had some time to kill before meeting up with our friends, so we ordered up some “Pina Colavas” which were rum and raspberry mixed together like a smoothis almost.  It was light and refreshing, and incredibly dreamy to be sitting in the lounge among palm trees and the sound of rippling waterfalls.  Our own piece of the tropics, right here in our own backyard. The cost of both drinks tallied up to around $20, so not cheap, but worth the small slice of heaven for the evening.  You don’t even have to sit at the bar, there is Tamu Tamu Lounge right next to Ohana that has comfy couches and chairs, which then you can sit near the beautiful lobby center.  The drink menus were on the bar and on the lounge tables, along with a few appetizer choices as well- a great date night alternative if you can’t get into Ohana.

I’m not an expert by any means, but when you have experienced something yourself- whether it is losing weight, getting a degree, or moving towards your dream- you want to share it with the world.  I know that sounds corny, but when you have experienced the highs and lows I have, it almost begins to feel like a responsibility to share it.  If God has laid something on your heart- whether it be the highest of highs or maybe even a low that you really just want to ignore- don’t- listen and believe that you CAN do it.

If you have been following us, you KNOW what God can do in a person’s life.  He opened doors for us that I never DREAMED could be opened- he introduced us to some of the best people on the planet- and all because we remained true to our hearts and our faith. Did I ever think that I would be meeting the Cast of “Finding Nemo: the Musical” or hanging out with Lou Mongello? Siting in WI, I would have never dreamed this possible.  On a Saturday there, I would probably head to a garage sale with Mom or to a park with the kids. (Nothing wrong with any of that, love it and miss it). Now we get to choose WDW, Sea World, Celebration.. and eventually we will add Universal Studios to the group. It will never be “Just a theme park” to us- it is our own personal playground where we are literally neighbors with Mickey himself.   I don’t have to ride the rides, I can just walk and enjoy the music and atmosphere.  I don’t have to kill myself to get on the next monorail- I have all the time in the world.  If it’s laid on your heart to move here, I can tell you, it is VERY worth it- especially if you see yourself in some type of Disney career in the future.  For now, I feel that I am being led to continue the blog for as long as I feel I am helping others and enjoying myself, and will be waiting on a WDW career…. for now.

I can feel the tides starting to finally shift here, and for me, it’s a peaceful feeling.  Both kids are registered for school, which was weighing on my mind, and our kitchen floor was redone- so that is finally come to an end as well.  It’s not easy being a new tenant in your new home and even though we knew the floor had to be redone- it’s a pain when my stove is literally still in the garage.  Oh well, now we HAVE to eat out- a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do!

I will leave you all with this today- we picked up Craig’s Mom at the Airport yesterday, and I found it strange, almost surreal to be there as a Resident. Here I was at MCO, the place that I almost wanted to skip and cry in every time we got off our plane from WI- and I was here to welcome someone to our home… here.   It was just weird, exciting, and almost a bit joyful to know we won’t ever have to board a plane to leave it for good.  Just, wow.  Have a wonderful day everyone and make sure you stay true to your heart!

  1. Amy,

I know you have alot of followers but I have to tell you that every single time you post a on the blog I truly feel like God is using you to show me how he can work and not to limit him, but it just is frustating everytime I feel like I have moved closer to making that move that something happens, like the latest of a realitor & our financial advisor telling us that it will be more than a yr for us to make that move due to our house and what we owe on it. So I go sit in a corner pout for a bit but get back to trying again if it be I am not saving enough money or not gaathering enough information. I so desire to be in FL and it has been on my heart since 2005. As the yrs go on the desire gets stronger and I find my self taking my career in a totally different direction.
I cannot not wait to just sit and talk with you maybe shed a few tears of how challeging this journey has been. You are my shining star!

  2. Another excellent post! I got the sense that you are at peace with your new life in Florida and that’s a good thing. This is just the beginning. More and more good times await…

  3. Although we have yet to meet in person I could tell from your writing that you believe in listening to your heart and taking that step if it feels right, without being reckless. Great post Amy 🙂

  4. I’m thinking you should start a career as a motivational speaker. You’re very inspirational.

  5. Amy I LOVED this post. I know for you this was related to moving to your happy place yet it could be applied in so many situations in so many lives, as always an uplifting post. Thanks always for sharing your heart.

  6. I really needed this post today. I’d been feeling a little down about our future plans this week, just because it’s been such a stressful few days. (weeks like I’ve had this week make it hard to focus on our future in Florida.)

I’m very glad that you’re settling in (and I hope your stove is in the proper place soon, although eating out sounds great!). I’m sure it still feels like a dream a lot of the time, and reading your posts make me feel like I’m experiencing part of that dream with you all.
Thank you so much for writing this, and giving me a much needed lift. 🙂

  7. Very inspirational, I trul believe that God knows what is best for us. He has plans but expects us to think for ourselves. The College that I am in right now gives inspiration each week of classes because I take them online. My college is Indiana Wesleyan University. Follow your heat because there is nothing more true. Disney is more than a playground to me, it is a lifestyle, it picks me up when I am sad and when I am in the parks it seems like all of my cares and worries just fade away. Although I will never be able to work at Disney, my disability still feels like a blessing and God does have a plan for me. I feel blessed to have found this website and good people on it. I hope to meet many of you one day during my trips to WDW. My next one is tentative for Sept-Oct 2012.
    Paul ,,Indiana
