Cookes of Dublin…A Bite of the Irish

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat as you stroll the streets of Downtown Disney, look no further than “Cookes of Dublin.”  A Counter Service Restaurant, it is found in the old Pleasure Island area, attached to the Table Service Restaurant “Raglan Road.”   Salads, sandwiches wraps, and fish n’ chips are just some of the many choices you can find on their fantastic menu!

Laurie, Alonso, and I ate lunch here after our daring “Characters in Flight” balloon ride, and we were pleasantly surprised to have almost the whole place to ourselves. Dining at 11:30 at it’s perks, as everyone still is filing in to shop.  So tip #1, ear early and you will have a nice quiet meal to yourself.

We opted for the Cobb Salads (mine with chicken, Laurie had salmon) and Alonso had the chicken wrap, add a couple of sodas and we were good to go for a great lunch!  They gave us a number, we filled our own drinks, and found a shady spot on the gated in patio area. You can sit inside, which has limited seating, and then they have two spots outside- the gated area near the bar, or a couple of tables that line the outside of the Restaurant.

They brought the food to our table, with little to no wait, and I have to tell you, for the $11 that they charge for the salad, it was WELL worth it- IT WAS HUGE!  It was brought out in a large container, which I thought was a bit odd, it would have been nice for the setting to have been brought in a real bowl or plate. Or large plastic plate- but the container, I’m sure, holds more salad for the buck- can’t complain there!

Alonso said his chicken wrap was delicious, and I would agree on the salad except that I am not a fan of the lettuce pieces being so big that you have to cut them up to enjoy them. The eggs were nice and fresh, and whatever bacon they put on it WAS TO DIE FOR!!  I think I will go for something with more of that bacon next time!  If you are watching what you eat on your vacation, like my friends were, this is a great alternative to all of the same old you see on many of the Counter Service menus.

Great price, great food, great atmosphere.  The only thing I would have enjoyed a tinsiest bit better was the patio chairs are very “loungy” type ones, you kind of lay back into them. When I am eating, I like to be sittin straight up and ABOVE my dish, not almost eye level with it.  Other than that, I give it a thumbs up and suggest trying it out on your next vacation.
