Jim the Ragtime Piano Player at Casey’s Corner

Guest Author: Garrett Dunnewold

Most WDW guests know of Casey’s Corner as the best place to get a hot dog in the Magic Kingdom. However, besides the delicious dogs, there’s another great reason to stop by Casey’s– to spend some time listening to one of WDW’s unique performers– Jim, the ragtime piano player.

There are a few different cast members who play piano at Casey’s, but more often than not you will find Jim performing there. Jim is a long-time Cast Member who has been with Disney since the 70s. He incredibly talented and can play tons of ragtime classics and Disney tunes, often at rip-roaring speeds.

It’s not just Jim’s talent, though- he is also incredibly friendly and personable. He loves to get guests involved– giving facts about the songs he plays, often asking kids to come up and play the last note of songs, playing songs by request (He once played “Minnie’s Yoo-Hoo” because my wife was wearing a Minnie t-shirt.), or even bursting into a rendition of “Happy Birthday” if someone is nearby with a birthday button. Jim is an exuberant performer and clearly loves his job, which clearly shows through in his performances.

Jim is a true gem of a Disney cast member and one of our must-do stops at the Magic Kingdom. We’ve been going to see him for many years, and when I’m at home missing WDW one of the things that takes me back is imagining Jim sitting at his piano, tearing through a rendition of “Maple Leaf Rag”, his smiling face reflecting in the mirror on the front of his piano.

Have you heard Jim play at Casey’s? If you have any great memories of hearing him perform, share them in the comments!

  1. I have been going to Disney World for over 30 years. When I had kids,
I brought them every two years. We all love Jim the Piano man, and
his corner is a must stop. I have videos of him from back then and
he is absolutely “The Entertainer” of the century. My son Chad is on
his way there now with his future bride and her family. I told him to say
hello to Jim……he won’t be disappointed!
