Going with Groups- Epcot Flower and Garden Festival

The amazing thing about Walt Disney World is the sheer number of things to do while you are there on vacation.   With the four theme parks, two water parks, Downtown Disney, Wide World of Sports, numerous hotels/resorts and all the special events it can be overwhelming. It’s possible to spend two weeks there and still miss a lot. Due to the volume of activities it can get overwhelming when planning a trip, especially if it’s a group trip.

Over the years I have become the “unofficial trip planner” for my group of friends and family. Recently I helped plan and coordinate a family and friends trip to Walt Disney World. That trip and the planning involved got me thinking about all the trip possibilities Walt Disney World can provide.

Every year between March and May Epcot is host to the International Flower and Garden Festival.  This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone planning a “girl’s trip” or even a long weekend with friends at WDW.  If you belong to a garden club or have a circle of close friends who enjoy gardening as much as you do, you can plan a trip around this event.  To really enjoy the festival it’s best to plan a day or maybe two in Epcot so that you have time to stroll from country to country and really take in all that the event has to offer. Each of the international locations has amazing themed presentations of flowers and topiaries.  Group members who love flower shows or just leisurely walks around the world showcase will enjoy taking in all of the displays.

From Friday to Sunday between noon and 3pm HGTV design personalities take to the designer’s stage where they share tips and give advice on making your home spring to life.  This will appeal to any HGTV fans you might have in your group. I for one would love to see David Bromstad. Even if you aren’t an HGTV fan but you enjoy design this is a great opportunity to get some ideas and tips from the pros.

If your group includes night owls who like to enjoy live music then the Flower Power Concert Series is just what you need.  Held at the American Gardens Theatre these free concerts are held twice a night Friday through Sunday. Each weekend hosts a different performance so check out the schedule online.

A new addition to the event this year is the introduction of the Garden Marketplace Kiosks featuring small spring samplings of your favorite global treats.  Groups that might have a foodie or two will be excited with this addition to the event.  As you can see the festival contains many different sites, sounds and savoring samples that will appeal a variety of personalities within a group.

In the event you book a Walt Disney World vacation planned around the International Flower and Garden festival you might enjoy these suggestions:

–       Consider booking garden view rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort. The lush landscaping and walking trails allow you to enjoy the scenery even after leaving the festival.

–       Downtown Disney is always a great destination for dinner and shopping. As you walk through the area you will notice some really gorgeous landscaping displays spread throughout the area.  After a long day of walking around the festival a nice relaxing dinner might be in order.

–       Stop by the Basin and treat yourself to some floral scent bath salts and soaps.

–       Groups who love the nightlife might enjoy Jellyrolls located at the Boardwalk Resort.  This over 21 ivory bar allows guest to participate in a sing a long!

–       Always save at least one day to spend at the MagicKingdom. We all need a day to reconnect with our inner child!
