Aloha! To all of my ‘Cousins’ and `Ohana out there!

 Guest Author: Beth Thompson

One of our favorite places to eat for dinner each and every trip is `Ohana’s at the Polynesian resort. This is an all you can eat for one price restaurant or only 1 dining credit per person for the meal. The Polynesian  makes you feel like you are on the island and the restaurant is a special piece of paradise. If you get the opportunity for one of the first reservations of the night you will be welcomed with a traditional ceremony and a conch shell is blown before everyone is taken in for their reservation.

As you are taken to your seat by your ‘cousin’ you stop to get the freshly baked Pineapple Coconut bread. The center of the restaurant is where all of the skewered meats are being cooked right in front of you over an oak fire. The views out the windows are aimed towards the Magic Kingdom. Food here is served family style with the meats brought around on a skewer, one type at time. Appetizers include: Mixed Greens with Mango-Poppy Seed Dressing, Honey Coriander Chicken Wings, Pork fried dumplings, Sweet Golden Pineapple. The Skewers: Oak Grilled Chicken, Asian Barbecued Pork Loin, Marinated Sirloin Steak, Spicy Grilled Peel-n-Eat Shrimp. Side items: Noodles tossed in a peanut sauce and Stir fried vegetables. Dipping Sauces: House Made Peanut Sauce, Chimichurri Sauce, and Pineapple Sweet and Sour Sauce. Dessert: Bread pudding served a la mode with Bananas and Carmel Sauce. The chefs are fantastic working with you if you have dietary restrictions.Ohanas 2

`Ohanas is not a quiet spot to relax from a day at the parks, it is a fun and vibrant atmosphere which includes great Hawaiian music, coconut races around the restaurant, the limbo, flower leis, to learning how to Hula or by celebrating a special time (birthdays, anniversaries, honeymoons, or pre-wedding dining). Our favorite reservation time is at dark just before the fireworks go off at the Magic Kingdom. The music is piped in, the lights are dimmed, and you have a chance to share a piece of the magic in a special place. Don’t forget to make a ADR to join the fun. Aloha!
