The Healing Power of Disney Series
I’ve been struggling with some demons lately that have just been coming at me left and right. You have the choice to give in to them or choose to fight, and 9 out of 10 times, I fight. I’m a child of God, I know what I am up against. But when there’s still that one floating out there, that is speaking unkindly in my head, I have to find a way to quiet it before it consumes me.
So today I headed to Epcot. I was planning a Disney day anyways, so why not kill two birds with one stone? What I didn’t see coming was the sucker punch I got while riding “Frozen” today.
You know the song, something about letting it go? Anyways, its surely not as important as how it made me feel. I’ve rarely cried on a ride because of sadness, but wow today I was ready to bawl. And on top of it, I know where they take the ride photo, so in true Disney Princess fashion, I slapped that smile on because this girl isn’t being documented being sad on a Disney ride. lol
Just hearing the song, the feel of the ride, the empowerment it exudes for women, and it’s a favorite with my bestie…. It all just hit home hard. The funny thing is. Is that it was healing. I felt calmer, I felt better, and I walked off of it feeling confident that I could handle this storm and I had no reason to be afraid.
There is healing at Disney…. there just is. It can be a song, a hug, a show, a ride, a kindness. It can be grieving over a lost one, saying goodbye to an addiction, getting over a break-up, or finding fun again after a sad chapter in your life.
The magic is in the feeling of the healing. When we are brave enough to face the pain, only then can we ever imagine the peace that lives on the other side. The hardest part for me is facing it head on, but its always easier after a moment, an hour, or a day of magic. Perhaps with the right amount, life will turn out alright.
