Day 3… “Varsity” Diner, “Civil Rights Museum” and “La Parilla”

Thursday, June 3rd, 2021

After a full morning of Muppet mayhem at Center for Puppetry Arts, we needed some sustenance. Christa asked me what I was hungry for, and I said, “Whatever is cool while in Atlanta.” Her daughter went to college here, so she knows the area very well which was a GODSEND when you don’t know how to get around anywhere there. We headed over to “Varsity” for lunch which I was told is an “Institution” in the area.  Picture a VERY large diner, like a small city block, where they shout at you for your order (at least they used too)- no one yelled at me. LOL, I ordered a “Glorified Burger” which is a burger with mayo, lettuce, and tomato.  Fries and a Coke Zero, and I was good to go!  They pack their food in these cute little boxes with their “Lingo” posted on the outside.  It’s a popular place, celebrities stopping here all the time as well.  So lunch again was somewhere new- yay!! Then we headed for desert at “Sublime Doughnuts” nearby- I chose the Butterfinger donut and it was delicious.

Next, we headed to the Center for Civil and Rights Museum, located near the Coca-Cola Museum and Aquarium.  Again, tickets pre-paid online with a reserved time, so again, check online before heading here.  This was a powerful experience…a place with many lessons to be learned.  I truly enjoyed it and it definitely makes you feel empowered to leave it wanting to fight the injustices in the World and to love each other…. regardless of color and class.  I highly encourage all to visit here.

Dinner was at “La Parilla” tonight as Christa and I enjoyed Mexican food over a well enjoyed day.  The food was good, I had a taco salad and she had taco rancheros, but the wait was long, and the place was so loud that we were practically screaming at each other.  I would NOT recommend this place for a quiet sit, but the food was good if you are just looking for a bite of Mexican. I head out tomorrow for Louisville, Kentucky…. about 7-8 hours with stops.  Yes, another long drive, but I will be the best DJ I can be.  I listen to music, podcasts, Marco, and make phone calls…the time actually goes pretty quickly. Watch for check ins and videos on Facebook tomorrow and the rest of my time on the road…also THANK YOU to those who are buying my Merch and supporting me during my journey.

Christa and Walter spreading kindness!

Thank you for your support and kindness!

I love spreading kindness by aspiring to inspire the love of adventure and travel. Every dollar you donate is invested in sharing my time and stories with you so that YOU TOO can enjoy these amazing places on the big, blue spinning marble. See you on the road!
