Our Walks on Lake Estes Trail in Estes Park, Colorado
While looking for a Lodge in Colorado to stay at, one of the important factors was that it sat on water with a view of the Mountains. When we found “Estes Park Lodge” we were SUPER happy to see we got BOTH! An added bonus of staying there was that it was on the Lake Estes Trail as well, which weaved around the Lake, and into town.

Walkers and runners ourselves, a great trail provides so much peace to every morning. The sun rising, we would just get up and leave, hand in hand. The fresh mountain air, the daylight just starting to peek through, it was bliss; it became our favorite thing every day. Halfway down we could walk right onto the Main Street area if we wanted, it was such a great location.

On our last morning, we were walking incredibly slow, trying to soak every last minute in. We had gotten used to walking past an Elk Birthing area, and with the façade of the fence keeping them in, we really didn’t worry about them. Until that day. Kyra had called Craig and they were chatting, meanwhile we are passing this Elk birthing area again. Except THIS TIME, a Male was standing about 10 feet from us. I had to tug on Craig’s arm, as he was deep into his conversation, just for him to look over and we both started to walk quickly out of there. Nothing stopped this VERY large animal from walking forward or charging us. It was incredibly scary, and we did a lot of looking behind us as we briskly walked away.

They have several residences on this trail, so be respectful, a long with cabins to rent. We thought the cabins looked really intriguing, may have to try one next time.

The trail was probably one of our favorite things from the trip and is a must while visiting Estes Park. Just watch for the Elk, they aren’t messing around and the Rangers do try to keep an eye on them. Check it out and have a great time!
